F. Beesley from Purdey's, 12 ga. Sidelock
Left-handed Guns
12 gauge
2703
1643
Beesley worked for James Purdey and was the inventor of the Purdey self opening action. We had this gun sleeved invisibly (welded joint) in the UK and only have just got it back. New oil finish on lovely wood. I especially like the feel of the semi pistol grip. Builtin 1900 This gun has exquisite engraving with the best craftsmanship. The gun is in its original makers case (worn but restorable) with a really super neat label. In pencil on the label are the words " "Von Lengerke & Detmold which was a prominent New York importer of the period later to become the present Griffin & Howe whom have their records. It would be interesting to have them research it.

A sound 21 certainly ready for the season. 80-90% blue with bright bores. Right barrel has been opened from original Mod to IC, a real improvement to put meat on the table.

Superb engraving on this high grade gun. This gun was sleeved by Kirk Merrington from a 10g. and now is an excellent 12g. hammer gun. chokes would be super for steel shot for water fowl.

Barrels are bright and show no pitting. Case color is quite impressive, near 90%. There is no cracking behind the locks like one sees on many Smiths. Single trigger with snap caps works fine in both configurations. This gun is very tight!

with sling swivels, 80 % original case color. There is a lot of handling marks in the stock but overall a very solid gun. A fair number of handling marks in the wood but this gun is meant for work and it is ready to go.

Kirby has actually shot at ducks in England with this gun, not sure what ended up in the pot though? Gary wrote that. Kirby here. I did shoot many ducks with this with my friend Peter and he will attest I hit my share. Was a fun time. They called it night flighting..... At dusk we gathered at a little pond on a farm, they called it a "splash." Sure enough as the sky darkened the ducks would come in and land right in front of us!

While this gun has seen considerable use it has lots of miles as is for a solid hunting gun. Some minor pitting in both for the most part bright bores. Ejectors are in time and work well. There is some light pitting marks in places on the outside of the barrels. Gun is slightly loose with the forend off.

Nice Damascus pattern on this long and lean side lever hammer double by this respected Edinburgh maker. Extra thick wall thickness would allow some back boring for more choke if one would want it.
