Very high grade 10 bore English built and proofed. Built to the highest English standards using bar action locks with the second patent Purdey thumb lever to open the gun. Notice the use of Brazier locks... ...Same as used by Boss & Co! The gun incorporates a unique rising third bite into the rib extension. The patent number for this appears on the action is 654. I would like to see someone buy this and do an article on it! It is high grade, unique, and beautiful to behold with great shooting dimensions.

This is a class act. If this said Purdey on it the price would be double but the craftsmanship and condition would be the same. Henry actually worked for Purdey's before he hung his shingle. The gun is tight, in proof, and ready for the field! The bar in wood shotguns were some of the most expensive guns the London makers made during the Edwardian era. The gun is a joy to hold, balances super and the hammer pulls are like butter!

What a nice pair of very shootable hammer doubles from this famous maker. They come in a wonderful pair vintage solid oak case. Number 1 gun has British sleeved barrels and number two gun has replacement steel barrels also done in England. The open barrels would be death on quail under most conditions while the other set would be great for just about every other upland bird. I note that these guns handle very well and have BEST quality locks. Consignor says sell together or buy just one for 4900.00.

Kirby has actually shot at ducks in England with this gun, not sure what ended up in the pot though? Gary wrote that. Kirby here. I did shoot many ducks with this with my friend Peter and he will attest I hit my share. Was a fun time. They called it night flighting..... At dusk we gathered at a little pond on a farm, they called it a "splash." Sure enough as the sky darkened the ducks would come in and land right in front of us!

Leopold Bernard Damascus. One of our true fathers of Damascus barrel makers! See this gun just for fun with barrels by Bernard... ... http://www.metmuseum.org/collection/the-collection-online/search/24957 While faded, the name La Page still reads in the green wool felt of this original case with original tools. The gun while plain of engraving is of absolute high quality with exquisite hammers. A rare find and I hate to sell this but I cannot keep all my favorites. Note that the original case has a slight dome to it! Bores have some pitting but a very shootable and collectible pinfire.

Some pitting the bores but with some carefull barrel work I believe this could be a good shooter again. The barrels are marked for Leopold Bernard - the father of Damascus barrel making. Nicely engraved sweet little 20 hammer. If you are not aware, small bore English hammer guns are extremely hard to find as so few were made. We have had this gun invisibly sleeved in UK to the highest standards and reproofed 2 3/4". We can make this gun 14 1/2" LOP with a leather covered pad.

1893 vintage Pigeon gun, stunning engraving; second set 26" barrels of blued steel and choked .004" and .000"; walls L .026" and R. .032". This would make a very versatile vintage gun excellent for sporting clays, pheasants, and waterfowel. With the open choked barrels skeet and upland hunting for quail, woodcock, grouse etc.. It is possible the open choked barrels could be used with steel for hunting in no lead hunting areas. This gun built in 1893 can be shipped direct to you in most states.

So many of the quality gun makers names have been lost with time and this gun by Charles Smith gives us a direct connection with a smaller maker that very little is known but where the quality shows through. Nigel Brown's Book on British Gunmakers Volume III lists this as a Newark England maker. The gun retains considerable amount of case color on the beautifully engraved locks. I might mention the locks are high quality also with safety sears. This is a real value in an English sidelock.

Light and fast. This petite 12 weighs less than 6 lbs. and feels great between the hands with just some forward barrel weight. Engraving and wood show some ware but not bad considering the age. The gun has a super vintage feel and would be a joy to take afield. Keep in mind we could add a 1" leather covered pad and get this gun out to near 15" LOP.

These Prussian built Sauer side locks are very high quality. This one has been expertly spliced in the pistol grip to bend up the drop measurements to modern dimension. The bore does have some light pitting but overall bright. Barrels are possibly reduced in length but the they are filed together at the muzzle if done, it was not much.

The Dickson round action is arguably considered to be the most elegant of all the side by side shotguns. Combine this with what is thought of as the most elegant of opening methods, the side lever, almost nirvana of the sidelock shotgun has been obtained. Great near perfect Damascus barrels with beautiful bores and excellent minimum wall thickness. Stock dimensions are excellent. If it were mine to keep and shoot I would have us remove the wood extension and install a best quality leather covered pad. This only costs and extra $300 and only takes two weeks.

Finding 16g. nitro proofed English guns with 30" barrels has been like trying to find rocking horse poop. Well, maybe not that bad but they have been so hard to find of late. This gun was imported to America by our friends at William Larkin & Moore. They record this as a KING 1 model. This little 20 is of the highest quality. This is a super nice classic Anson actioned Westley from the golden era. This gun features newer steel barrels nitro proofed. I love the classic wood on this gun. Notice we can ship direct, no FFL needed on this great Westley. We can remove the stock extension and have a best quality leather covered pad installed for $300.00. The LOP then would be about 14 3/16".

This is a very beautiful little English boxlock by "The Purdey of the North" as the English like to fondly call this maker. Note the exceptional wood and game scenes! The pointing dogs have exceptional detail with hair and markings. Blow up a side picture and check them out! This fine gun comes in its original makers case with a really cool Pape trade label. Notice the engraving of the hammer gun on the trigger guard. I have never seen this before. Way cool.

Manufrance Ideal guns as some of you may well know have been a special interest of mine for many years. This is a very light 12 with very interesting fine engraving on the rib. The original retractable sling is in good condition. I have shown a picture of the rising third bite (similar to the Rigby) which is one of the many things I love about these guns, that and being an affordable true round trigger plate action!

Boxlocks

Medium deep pitting in both bores. One significant dent in the right barrel 4 3/4" from the muzzle on the right barrel. Gun is off face and needs rejoining. Chequering is gone in places, would need full re-cut in a restoration. Keep in mind this is a true Prussian round top Sauer and it features the long action table. Good news is that the barrels will probably clean up with a back boring as they have excellent thick walls.

This gun is a needy child but the original high grade quality might inspire! Bores are pitted fairly badly. Stock is a poor restock and has terrible dimensions anyway so could be used as a pattern to modify for a restock. Ejectors work fine, trigger pulls are ok. Some person we would like to incarcerate and castrate with my lawn mower buffed all the detail from the engraving so it would all need re-cutting as well as new screws. It is possible with a re-proof the gun could be used as is for a classic pick-up rack gun.

A solid boxlock and very well made but in need of a rejoin. We can arrange this for $300.00. There are a couple of small dings forward in the right barrel and one removed one in the left. I have had these guns apart and am always impressed in how high quality and hand fitted and polished the mechanics are.

John Dickson of Edinburgh 12g. with super rare sidelever

Proofed in August of 1963 this well made gun has excellent bores and is very tight. The double under bite lockup also has the double Kirsten barrel extensions that Merkel is famous for on its higher grade guns. The 6.5x57R round is one of my favorites as it is low recoil and fast and accurate. Based on the 8mm Mauser case this round can be purchased or easily reloaded. It is similar to the 257 Roberts but was invented by the Germans at least 20 years earlier!

Tight high grade double rifle that has seen Africa. The last owner shot two Cape Buff''s with this gun. Condition is high with bright and sharp bores. The Cape Buffalo in the picture resides in a great watering hole, the Road Kill, in Montana. This mighty queen resides over all there now. I will be posting the story of that hunt soon. This rifle wants to go back to Africa. She comes with ammo. Are you man enough to take her? Built in 1899.

Hosford and Co. Wall thickness gauge
Men's Collectibles
10 gauge
1158
This wall thickness gauge, complete with table clamping barrel vise, is the most accurate wall thickness gauge that we are aware of for the money (the next more accurate gauge is digital and costs over 2K). This gauge will measure 4 gauge through .410. It may look intimidating to use but let me assure you it is not. The secret and success of this gauge is in that the barrels are easily held suspended by the table clamped barrel vise. The gauge, once zeroed is slid over the barrel and quite easily moved back and forth while one just watches the gauge to read the actual barrel wall thickness. There is no math to do. The ingenious barrel holder allows you to easily rotate the barrels allowing you access to areas of the barrel near the ribs. On the vertical gauge this is quite difficult but on this gauge very easy. This gauge also has the feature of a finer pointed tip on the gauge allowing you to measure inside many pits. I cannot stress the value of having a quality wall thickness gauge if one is a serious collector and purchaser of high end double guns. THE FIRST GUN YOU REFUSE AS A RESULT OF USING THIS GAUGE PAYS FOR THE GAUGE MANY TIMES OVER. If you do not understand the significance of the last sentence, please reread it. We will not make any significant money selling these gauges. It is our intent to have educated buyers. It is our belief that our client’s best interests are also ours. Most all of our best clients already have this gauge but I would like to see all of our clients with one. These gauges were designed and hand built by Jon Hosford, a natural engineer, double gun lover, collector, and wing shooter (not to mention his appetite for fine red wine, scotch, and good food!)

See Jon's gauge in use and learn how to use it on youtube by typing in a search on youtube: “Hosford & Co., Shotgun barrel gauge, Part 1” or clicking this url: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jQZn4kohH4

Le Fusil de Chasse "Ideal" by Jean-Claude Mounrnetas
Men's Collectibles
Caliber
2025
This soft bound book is about the history and development of the Manufrance Ideal model round action trigger plate shotguns and rifles with many pictures and diagrams and the coveted serial number to date chart. We imported four of these from France. I am keeping one so we have three for sale. Yes, all the print is in French but I find with the charts, photographs and appendices the book very useful even if one does not understand a lot of French. I have a passion for these guns as they are so well made and designed but also beautiful to hold and to look at. Like a beautiful woman! :)

I know the price seems high but these were not inexpensive to us and the only book on the subject we are aware of so we paid the price.

J.P. Sauer Grade 17 - A worthy project gun ....
Rust & Dust
12 gauge

Medium deep pitting in both bores. One significant dent in the right barrel 4 3/4" from the muzzle on the right barrel. Gun is off face and needs rejoining. Chequering is gone in places, would need full re-cut in a restoration. Keep in mind this is a true Prussian round top Sauer and it features the long action table. Good news is that the barrels will probably clean up with a back boring as they have excellent thick walls.

This has been rather amateur stocked at least in the butt. The hidden sling is missing and needs a butt plate or pad.
