This weighty 10 is nitro proofed for the British 3 1/4" load ( 1 1/2 oz. ) . It has very nice bores and locks up tight as a drum.

The over all condition is excellent retaining at least 40% original case color. The engraving is sharp and has wonderful dogs on both sides. These heavy nitro tens are hard to come by with any condition as usually they were heavily used in salt marsh duck blinds.

This would be a blast to take turkey hunting and nail a big tom!

This gun dates from 1934 . A very nice Dickson from between the wars with great wall thickness and dimensions. This is the period that many consider to be the pinnacle of the UK gunmaking trade. The Bores are bright and shiny with a few pits in the right barrel towards the muzzle but in proof and nothing deep

Note the weight! And now have pictures of the gun in the vintage Dickson correct vintage case.

Greener Royal Grade with Excellent original Damascus barrels and extra BEST steel Chopperlump 2 3/4" Barrels
Boxlocks

We have only had a few Royal grade Greener guns over the years and it is always a pleasure to have one come in the shop. This one was an extra special surprise as it still has its original 30" Damascus barrels and they are in excellent condition with great walls and chokes . Another surprise was that someone at great expense ( I am sure more than what we are asking for this gun) had an extra set of modern super high quality steel (chopper lump no less) barrels made for the gun with 2 3/4" chambers.

This Royal grade features a gold crown on the top lever and full engraving with wonderful fences. The stock features marble cake french walnut and is the kind that can get me excited about any gun even from across the room or meadow. If you check out the pictures I am sure you will not disagree.

The Greener book places this gun from 1893 so no FFL needed.

You have probably heard me say this before but finding extremely original English guns in high condition is becoming near impossible. The good news is once in a while we get a gun in that is in fantastic original condition. This is one of those guns.

Weighing less than some English 2" guns this gun balances extremely well with a very lively feeling between the hands. The case color is near 90%, the wood finish 90%, the barrel black 80%.

This gun has its original case and hang tag which interestingly enough mentions that the gun was tested with American ammunition. Sold to an American? The original case shows considerable wear but the gun also comes with a Huey style oak & leather case with French fitted tools making an extremely attractive package and a seriously sound investment.

This is a super elegant round action from Scotland with gorgeous nitro proofed Damascus barrels. Stunning Damascus pattern. Did I mention how beautiful these barrels are?

These trigger plate actions remove a large amount of wood from between the action so to strengthen it this gun has had a pin put cross wise across the head of the stock to prevent cracking. It was professionally and elegantly done with horn covers. The butt has a 1" horn extension.

William Ford was a well known gunmaker in the Birmingham trade for well over 100 years. He was first known as a barrel maker and barrel borer and was known for doing special boring for the Greener competition guns in the late 1800's. I understand the William Ford business closed their shop in 1993.

Being known for excellent barrels Ford has not let us down with this gun . Well struck but retaining excellent wall thickness these barrels are an excellent example of what the British gunmakers could do. The stock dimensions are modern and will fit many. Tastefully engraved with nice wood in very nice condition this tight little gun will make someone an excellent upland shotgun.

This is a great English gun for the money. Henry Adkin is often confused with Henry Atkin, a London gunmaker that worked for Purdey's at one time and built wonderful high grade guns. The confusion is fine as Adkin also built wonderful quality guns, just not as many so is not as well known.

It would be a simple matter for us to remove the long wood extension and add a conventional pad for a more normal LOP.

Built on a unique but 100% trigger plate action this is a gun that I have always been intrigued with. I like everything about them except for the safe which is located to the right and left of the trigger guard. It functions fine but I don't find them as ergonomic as the top safe.

So, despite the safety, I still shoot, promote and get excited about these guns as they are worth having, shooting and appreciating due to their great balanced round action and features. This grade and higher feature a rising bite third fastener similar to the coveted Rigby rising third bite. The pull back lever behind the trigger guard opens the gun and is extremely ergonomic. It is out of the way and very easy to operate.

C.S. Rosson of 13 Market Street Derby ~ A very elegant little English gun for the $
Boxlocks
12 gauge

C.S. Rosson was a very well respected maker in England during their day. This is a very nice little 6 1/2 pound game gun which would make a super first English double. It is in very nice original condition, has great stock dimensions, crisp trigger pulls, and is well balanced.

The full choke in the left with cylinder in the right is a common English choking and was effective in driven shooting. If one opens the left barrel to a light modified and leave the right barrel as is this gun would be a fabulous upland bird shotgun. We can arrange for this and the cost is only $70.

Built in 1904 this Parker would be a great gun to shoot for most as it has very good dimensions, at least for a Parker of this vintage. Typically guns from this period have 3" of drop at heel or more.

The extra full chokes would make this great for turkey hunting or allows one for only $70.00 per barrel open the chokes to any desired amount.

Yes, the sleeve line shows (a re-blue would help with this). The old lady has some wrinkles but not many I can see considering she was put together in 1883!.

Jason and I were in basin shooting feedlot pigeons last Saturday. At 5:30 in the morning I had to pick what guns to take ( I always take two, one should always have a back up). I without hesitation took my old standby and then thought "What have I seen in the shop I would like to shoot?"

I had the choice of some Boss guns, and a couple of Purdey's and Hollands but my mind came back to this old Dougal sidelever I had recently come through the door. She was my choice. Sometimes the most expensive gun in the shop is not my choice and neither should it need to be yours.

Beesley is a very old and respected name in the London gun trade. Frederick started his apprenticeship at William Moore & Grey where I am sure he worked with many of the gun makers from Joseph Manton. Men that helped begin the making of high end and quality double guns. Frederick Beesley is most famous for being the inventor of the self opening mechanism that Purdey adopted in around 1880 and and is still in use by them today. This boxlock is tight and field ready and quite a deal for a London gun.

This vintage Westley has barrels with excellent wall thickness. It is perfectly tight on face. Being built between 1890 and 1891 we can ship direct as it is antique.

If some one could use a 14 3/8" LOP we could remove the current pads and put a nice new "Old English" or leather covered pad on the gun which would look very nice.

Of the early Westley guns I like this model as it has the elegance of the early guns but features the Purdey double under bite. Guns before this often only had one or no bites on the under lug which was not near as strong as the design on this gun.

A solid English waterfowl gun with great dimensions for a fair price. Do I need say more?

The original proof marks are 3" for a 1 1/2" load and it was recently reproofed for 2 3/4" which I know makes no sense. Consulting with proof experts, we believe that the gun is out of the original proof in the right barrel by only one thousandths so it was resubmitted for new proof and the proof house screwed up and marked it for 2 3/4" instead of 3" accidentally. Proof house employees are government employees who are human just like the rest of us and make mistakes. The thing too remember is this is a very strong gun!

This gun has a lot to offer for the price. Wood worthy of a Boss or Purdey for one. It is tight on face and ready to shoot. There is honest engraving wear showing this old girl has spent a considerable amount of time afield.

I detect and old stock repair in the wrist that has been expertly done and reinforced with an extended top tang. It was so well done it was only because of the extended tang that I was able to figure it out as it is virtually impossible to see without magnification and in just the right light.

@ 1901 This classic Lancaster has their famous assisted opening action. It works very well and also has very strong auto ejectors. The gun is tight on face. The bores have some very fine haze or pitting but be assured it is very minor and easily removed if one would want to go to the trouble.

The only real negative about this shotgun is she is plain as Jane next door but what do you want for only $1400?

Someone carried and loved this gun. The checkering on the forend and the butt has nearly been worn off! When I was first offered this gun I did not at first look think I would want it. I obviously changed my mind as I found the gun tight on face with nice bores. The trigger pulls were good. The wall thickness was great and the barrels still had all their choke. In other words, this gun is ready to go and will give many more years of faithful service! Its like the 20 year old horse we had that went on to live to over thirty! Looks can be deceptive. ? Use the gun as is as a great backup gun or do an easy restoration. It is up to you. Either way this is a great gun for this kind of money.

Smythe was a well known gunmaker from Darlington. This gun while having seen considerable use is still tight and strong and would make a great entry into finding out about the balance and handiness of the English double.

You may wonder about the dowel in the head of the stock. This was added to strengthen the stock left to right. It may have had a crack in the center of the stock and this would after the repair help prevent it from happening again.

What a great little 16 gauge and ever so light at 5 lbs. 14.5 oz.! We do not often hear a lot about Henry Monk shoguns but they have been with us a long time. Monks business started in Chester England in 1868 and extended until 2000 according to Nigel browns "British Gunmakers Volume II."

This gun features extensive remaining case hardening, 90% or better. The blacking on the barrels is also 85-90% or better.

This will make some one an excellent upland double.

Very pretty wood (a restock) on this little Ideal with nice long barrels. This grade does not feature the rising bite featured on some higher grade Ideal guns but it does have the classic double under-bite with the true trigger plate action. I see some epoxy bedding material in places where the wood meets the action but this will not in anyway affect performance and allows us to sell this gun at a much reduced price.

There is some light pitting in the bores which could be removed but if it were me I would take this light lady afield just as she is and enjoy her doing what she does best.

Do you like French wine and food like myself? If so you might consider a classic French double. The Manufrance "Ideal" with its amazing rising bite is a great choice.

Nicely restocked with good dimensions, great wall thickness, and solid chokes, this true trigger plate round action has a lot to offer. There is very light pitting in the bores which could easily be removed (or left and shoot it as is as I would do). Featuring the classic "eye glass" trigger guard and nice long 29" chopper lump barrels. I love how these guns open by pulling back on the lever behind the trigger guard which is very ergonomic.

If you know me, you will know I love these guns. Give me a call and I would be glad to let you know why.

Of the sliding breech guns the Charlin has always been considered the best. While very plain this little 16g. is extremely well made.

Sliding breech guns built by Darne are well made but to properly operate them you have to almost firmly "horse" the action for it to operate properly. The Charlin sliding breech is much smoother and easier to use. It is rumored the Charlin breech slides on ball bearings it is so smooth but I have had gunsmiths tell me "there is no ball bearings in those guns!"

A very light little Greener 20g. . They did not make many 20g. guns during this period so this gun is quite rare.

The bores are bright but to be up front there is some even haze (micro) pitting in each bore but nothing to worry about for a field gun.

When the gun arrived it was off face (loose) so we are having the gun rejoined by Hosford & Co. and it should be ready in about three weeks after this listing and will be vault tight on face.

W.W. Greener guns were highly respected in the old west here in America. You may recall in some of the old John Wayne westerns when he saw trouble coming he would say with authority"Get me my Greener."

Winchester Model 21 .410 in possibly unfired condition with the original box and work orders ~ First one I have ever seen
Boxlocks

This exceptional and rare Model 21 is in basically new condition. The last owner never fired it and when he purchased it was told it was unfired also. This gun is what in the model 21 collector world was called a gift gun. These were guns built in the Winchester factory on direction of the CEO or manager to be presented as a gift from someone or department of the Winchester Arms Company. It is believed this particular example was built as a gift from John Olin to the then President of Yale. See the photo's here of the original work orders.

What a rare opportunity this is and in the spirit of its origin would make such a wonderful gift to another collector or to pass down to a sporting son or daughter establishing a family legacy.

This gun has seen use but still has lots of life left in it. The shotgun bores have a little frosting but are basically bright and the rifle bore is bright with strong rifling. This is a very functional drilling at a price where one can afford to hunt with it.
