Our good friend at Dickson's, JP Daeschler graciously shared the following history on our gun. It was delivered as No. 1 of pair on 6th August 1897 to Edward Hunter Blair of Dunskey, 6th Baronet. It would certainly be interesting to research him. I wish I had more time!

What strikes me about this immediately is the overall beauty, almost overwhelming. I am certainly attracted to the smokey and mysterious dark and elegant wood. When I pull my eyes away from the wood the perfect proportions present themselves to only be pulled into the fine and stunning engraving.

*The dimensions are great for many Americans being near what we all grew up with , 1 11/16" at comb, and 2.5" at heel. The dimensions almost all American double guns were built too so this gun will automatically feel familiar to many of us and are likely to shoot very well.

Obviously feather light, these guns while light are known for throwing excellent patterns. Ammunition is available and we do carry it. Price is for the pair! A real bargain.

*If you like a 14" LOP the well-done extensions could be removed and replaced with a leather covered pad.

*Ejectors have been removed but are included.

*Comes with a set of .410, 20 and 28 gauge 15" inserts without choke constriction in any.

I knew George Reeb who had a fascinating business of restoring jet aircraft and putting them back into service like new. He collected the Reeb guns of his ancestors and had accumulated a magnificent collection as Reeb guns were known for being of the highest quality with ornamentation. I wonder what became of his collection? It is obviously possible this is a gun he owned at one time and was a part of his collection. He left us many years ago, a close friend to Bob Jones, my mentor., also long past.

This fine shotgun features a single select Miller trigger and note it is proofed for 2 3/4" shells.

There is no safety. One of the tools has a silver handle with silver proof marks!

This dates from 1909.

*If you were wondering, the gun is vault tight and field ready.

*This example has at least 60% case color remaining which indicates it has seen little use in its 60-70 years of age.

*Great dimensions for many and a super value in an extremely well-made English double. Built @1930 this gun is tight and ready for the hunt.

*The picture of the castle is indeed "Barnard Castle." The castle that has given the village its name.

Tight on face with bright bores, I see no pitting, excellent wall thickness.

Crisp trigger pulls

Beautiful wood with no cracks or issues with only normal handling marks

Auto ejectors well timed and work fine

Issues: I see none! It does have 70%+ original case colors that indicate little use in its 120 years!

The gun is tight on face. I detect a very well-done and obviously strong crack repair towards the pistol grip cap if I put the gun in the sun. No big deal but like to list everything I see.

A very attractive nitro Damascus gun for a very reasonable price. Apparently built about 1880, the year when the name was changed to Thomas Jackson and Son.

The extension we can easily remove, and the new owner can have a pad fitted to his or her LOP up to 14 5/8".

*Tight on face this gun can go to field.

The choking is perfect for most upland hunting and very near what I personally use in the field.

The Westley records date this gun to March of 1907 and made for one George Rolleston. Gunsmith Daniel Morgan has put this gun back on face and it is now ready for another lifetime of use. The nitro proofed English sleeved barrels have excellent wall thickness and choking for game shooting.

*Well, ok, two more words, "Well Made."

*I just had another look over this gun and being a lover of fine walnut am in love with the stock on this gun. I wish I had time to restore the checkering and give it a new oil finish as this gun would become a showstopper. I am pricing this gun to allow the new owner to have this done and not be buried in it economically. We can refer you to good people for this or perhaps you could do it yourself. It would be fun and rewarding work.

*I also did not mention this gun has about 25%case color left on the action that is not showing in the pictures..

*The orange pad can be removed and stock checkered to make it 14 1/2" length of pull.

*Chokes can easily be opened for only $80.00 per side by our recommended gunsmith.

*Note this gun has a few higher-grade features, bushed firing pins, and overhanging safety sears.

*If one was to give this a new oil wood finish it would be a beautiful gun but why? For this price just get out and use it!

*The gun is tightly choked but these can be easily opened to whatever you would want for only $80 per tube.

Boss & Co. sold this line of boxlocks which are known to be very nice quality.

*This little 20 is in very nice condition. It balances well, has great dimensions for many, and is tight and has nice bores. The chokes are perfect for upland shooting.

*The length of pull is great for a taller person but if you are shorter don't despair. A shorter pad or butt plate can be fitted to bring the gun to your LOP. We can help guide you to a gunsmith that can do this super well and in a timely manner for a fair price ( often less than $200).

*This gun dates to 1910.

*Note the great wall thickness on the 28" barrels and the excellent choking for upland game. Henry Hodgson was a well-established gunmaker in Ipswich in the early 1900's.
