John Dickson high grade round action from 1897 ~ Nitro proofed but from 1897 so we can ship direct ~ makers case Boxlocks 12 gauge |
5631 4914 |
|
Delivered as No. 1 of pair on 6th August 1897 to Edward Hunter Blair of Dunskey, 6th Baronet. It would be interesting to research him. What strikes me about this immediately is the beauty, almost overwhelming. I am certainly attracted to the smokey and mysterious dark and elegant wood. When I pull my eyes away from the wood the perfect proportions present themselves to only be pulled into the fine and stunning engraving. *The dimensions are great for many Americans being near what we all grew up with , 1.5" at comb, and 2.5" at heel. The dimensions almost all American double guns were built too so this gun will automatically feel familiar to many of us and are likely to shoot very well. |

James McNaughton Round Action from 1901 ~ cased Boxlocks 12 gauge |
5682 2478 |
|
The "Other" Edinburgh trigger plate round action. These are certainly no less impressive than a Dickson from the same period. Many of these cocked the hammers with the top lever but this one I prefer as it cocks more like what we are use too, on the opening. This gun is beautifully engraved and has exceptional wood. A pad can easily be added to achieve a LOP up to 14 3/4".

J Venables & Son Super light 2" 12g. ~ 5 lbs. 3 oz. ! Boxlocks 12 gauge |

This super light 2" shotgun handles well. It dates from between the wars, in 1935 when the 2" gun really gained popularity. Ammunition is available! In fact, we have some we would be willing to sell you! This example is in nice condition except for some pitting on top the barrels near the rib where it meets the action. It is not bad at all but does allow us to discount this gun to a price we seldom able to offer a nice 2" gun. *The extra full chokes can be opened to anything one would want for only $85.00 a tube and only takes two weeks. |

Williams & Powell with nice wood and condition Boxlocks 12 gauge |
5263 10694 |
|
This Powell has great bores and locks up like a vault. Stocked fairly high for the shooter that likes to cheek hard their gun (as they are teaching us to shoot today).
The wood is very nice and in great condition. The stock extension is well done but can be removed and replaced with a nice pad if one would like and obviously the left barrel can be opened up to anything one would want for very little money if one does not care for full choke.
Overall, a very nice English boxlock for a more than fair price. *Note this gun, although from about 1899 still retains at least 50% of its original case color! |

One might call these the work horse of the British boxlocks but really that would not be fare. These guns if they were horses they would not be big Clydesdales or Percherons but well-proportioned race horses while also being known for their sturdy nature and reliability. Maybe a quarter horse would be a better comparison! *This example has at least 60% case color remaining which indicates it has seen little use in its 60-70 years of age. |

Armstrong & Co. ~ A tidy and great shooting English double Boxlocks 12 gauge |
5495 42467 |
|
A lovely English boxlock made in Newcastle-on-Tyne sometime between 1904 and 1925 The well figured stock gives the gun an appearance beyond its price point. The action still retains some of its original color. Beautiful English scroll on the action, trigger guard, tang, fences and top lever. The gun closes with a satisfying snap and the trigger pulls are sharp. It balances beautifully with 28-inch barrels, and the game rib gives a great sight picture. This will make a fantastic shooter. *The left choke is a very tight full. This can easily be opened to whatever you would like for only $85.00. Full choke may be perfect for Mr. Turkey but for upland it is a bit much. |

Thosmas Jackson, 89 Wigmore Street W. ~ Beautiful Nitro proofed Damascus! @1880 so can ship direct Boxlocks 12 gauge |
5550 5812 |
|
Good dimensions, condition, and quality and the best part in my book is the beautifully patterned Damascus barrels. They are bright and shiny on the inside with only few very minor pitting (not deep) towards the muzzle that is very hard to see. * Note all the original case color!
The gun is tight on face. I detect a very well-done and obviously strong crack repair towards the pistol grip cap if I put the gun in the sun. No big deal but like to list everything I see. A very attractive nitro Damascus gun for a very reasonable price. Apparently built about 1880, the year when the name was changed to Thomas Jackson and Son. |

William Rochester Pape Nitro proofed boxlock from 1933 Boxlocks 12 gauge |

W.R. Pape was a very respected north England Newcastle gun maker. Excellent wall thickness and tight on face this is an exceptional value. What a lovely piece of wood this double has and with dimensions very familiar with Americans as these are very close to what almost all-American shotguns were sold with and what we grew up shooting.

A very nice solid good condition 12g. British boxlock from Bristol. This gun features good dimensions for many. The LOP could easily be made up to 1 inch longer with a pad, so up to near 15". The choking is perfect for most upland hunting and very near what I personally use in the field. |

I have a particular fondness for these Westley Gold name guns. They are extremely well made. This one has great dimensions for many and balances and handles extremely well. The Westley records date this gun to March of 1907 and made for one George Rolleston. Gunsmith Daniel Morgan has put this gun back on face and it is now ready for another lifetime of use. The nitro proofed English sleeved barrels have excellent wall thickness and choking for game shooting. |

Bushed firing pins and high-grade wood are both top notch features on this shotgun by this famous maker. Pay attention to the 5/8" cast off for a right-handed shooter. It seems a bit extreme, but the gun comes up pretty nice as is although it could be easily bent over a 1/4" if wanted.

C.G. Bonehill ~ The Belmont "Interchangeable" ~ No cast so good for left or right handed Boxlocks 12 gauge |
4334 2494 |
|
A very nice English boxlock at a super price. There is a chip in the toe of the butt plate that is easily repairable. It has a lovely horn pistol grip cap and horn forend escutcheon. This gun has tight bores, is in proof, and locks up tight. Interesting history of C.G. Bonehill: C. G. Bonehill was an English gunmaker from Birmingham, England who lived from 1831 to 1900 1. He established his own firm in 1851 and was recorded at 33 Charlotte Street with a factory in Morville Street in 1872 1. In 1873, he moved the whole business to the Belmont Firearms Works, Belmont Row 1. C. G. Bonehill was a Guardian of The Birmingham Proof House 1. He was related to and may have been associated with O. G. Bonehill of Belmont Firearms Works also of Birmingham 2. He held 4 US patents issued in the 1880s 2. From about 1900 to 1965, the company produced ball & shot guns and combination guns, and they made the Britannia air rifle 1. They were pioneers in the mechanization of gun manufacture, making the “Belmont Interchangeable” shotguns 1. From about 1900, C G Bonehill were the main suppliers of rifles to the “Society of Miniature Rifle Clubs” 1. The Society was founded to encourage rifle shooting amongst working class men, and it was largely responsible for establishing smallbore rifle shooting as a sport in England 1. For this purpose, old .303 Martini-Enfield rifles were re-barrelled to .22 rimfire and sold at very reasonable prices 1 |

Serial number records show us this shotgun was built in 1902. As you can see in the pictures the bluing on the barrels have multiple light scratches but the barrels are tight on face with nice bores. We have priced the gun to leave some room for a barrel blacking. This shotgun features a longer than normal forend which I really like as it would be excellent for clay shooting! |

I noticed this great little gun was still in the vault so wanted to relist it to get the attention of the hunter or shotgun enthusiast that has never expericanced an English double. Frederick P. Baker 16g boxlock ~ What a great little upland gun! Boxlocks 16 gauge |
5651 83621 |
|
Great dimensions and condition on this super little upland boxlock built @ 1930. F.P. Baker was a sporting-goods store in England that had their guns made for them by W.C. Scott, Skimin & Wood, and Westley Richards. I would wager, by the similar serial numbers that this gun was made by Skimin & Wood. They were the famous English company that built almost all the 2" game guns for the trade. This gun is in very nice condition and with the amount of case color left I would say has seen little use. It has great dimensions for many and handles very well, feeling quite lively between the hands. *bright bores. The barrels are showing an every so slight movement I can barley feel. Certainly not ready for a rejoin. |

Manufrance Ideal Grade 2R ~ This is the Classic French Round Action Boxlocks 16 gauge |
3557 18276 |
|
Built on a unique but 100% trigger plate action this is a gun that I have always been intrigued with. I like everything about them except for the safe which is located to the right and left of the trigger guard. It functions fine but I don't find them as ergonomic as the top safe. So, despite the safety, I still shoot, promote and get excited about these guns as they are worth having, shooting and appreciating due to their great balanced round action and features. This grade and higher feature a rising bite third fastener similar to the coveted Rigby rising third bite. The pull back lever behind the trigger guard opens the gun and is extremely ergonomic. It is out of the way and very easy to operate. |

Thomas Bland & 16g. ~ This will make someone a super upland gun without breaking the bank Boxlocks 16 gauge |
5326 17882 |
|
A very nice little 16g. but with only basic engraving but great stock dimensions for many. There are some case colors remaining. The gun has been 2 3/4" nitro proofed but considering the weight I would avoid the heavy American 16g. loads as they could cause you to need new dental work.
*If you don't care for the wooden stock extension we can easily help you have it replaced with a recoil pad. |

Charles Lancaster 16 gauge with 28" barrels and a nice LOP of 14 3/4" Boxlocks 16 gauge |

A nice handling 16g. by this famous London maker. There is a little pitting in the right barrel but lots of wall so not a concern and we have taken this in consideration when we priced it. I love these little 16g. British boxlocks as they are perfect for upland hunting. *This little 16 dates from 1911. |

William Powell & Son 16g. boxlock from 1880 and it still shoots great! Antique so can ship direct! Boxlocks 16 gauge |
5544 7031 |
|
This gun, while it has a fair number of handling marks and could use a new barrel black, is tight on face and shoots great. We, here at the shop, have a 7:00 AM Thursday morning clay shoot every week here on the property, and we all choose a gun or two to take out and give it a try. I chose at the last minute to take this rather tired looking old waitress to the shoot and like a great waitress, she performed perfectly and was simply a lot of fun. The gun is ready to shoot as is, but you know, it has very pretty marbled French walnut so if one were to remove the extension, replace with a nice pad, give it a new oil finish, and re-black the barrels the gun would become an elegant lady. *Remember, this we can ship direct as it is antique. |

J. S. Sharpe , 35 Belmont St. Aberdeen Scotland~ A very nice handling little Scott 16g from @ 1925 Boxlocks 16 gauge |
5321 2779 |
|
A relatively plain but attractive and petite 16. For those of you that like the classic American stock dimensions this shotgun has the lower dimensions for you. This would make a great upland bird gun, but I would have the chokes opened to near cyl. in the right and IC or Mod in the left to make it the killing machine I know it could become. This is not expensive, $85 per tube for world class work. *I have little information on J.S. Sharpe except he was in business in Aberdeen from 1924 to 1970. |

Alex Henry of Edinburgh ~ A very nice Scottish 20g. double from @1904 Boxlocks 20 gauge |
5652 8081 |
|
I love this Scottish maker. There is a wonderful book written about him by our good friend Donald Dallas. If you would like a copy, I believe there are just a few copies left: https://donalddallas.com/books/alexander-henry-rifle-maker/ *This little 20 is in very nice condition. It balances well, has great dimensions for many, and is tight and has nice bores. The chokes are perfect for upland shooting. *The length of pull is great for a taller person but if you are shorter don't despair. A shorter pad or butt plate can be fitted to bring the gun to your LOP. We can help guide you to a gunsmith that can do this super well and in a timely manner for a fair price ( often less than $200). |

H. Hodgson Boxlock 20g ~ A very nice little 20 from England Boxlocks 20 gauge |

What a great little 20g.. It is tight and field ready. There is a little light pitting in the right barrel but nothing of consequence. This is a great price for a 20g. English double. *Note the great wall thickness on the 28" barrels and the excellent choking for upland game. Henry Hodgson was a well-established gunmaker in Ipswich in the early 1900's. |

Manufrance "Ideal" Combination 12g. shotgun/12g. rifle Model # 320 S ~ The French "Round Action" Boxlocks Caliber |
5027 70804 |
|
I have hunted with and I guess will admit to collecting these Manufrance French trigger plate double guns for years. They still fascinate me. This great example features chopperlump barrels and the retractable in-stock sling which works perfect. The Rifled barrel is excellent and sharp. The shotgun barrel appears mirror when examined from the breech but when inspected from the muzzle I can see some light pitting in places. Only cosmetic but I want you all to know it is there. This gun is in very nice condition with much original case color remaining. I am told you can shoot shot out of the rifled barrel also so can still be used as a double barrel shotgun. |
