John Stanton & Son 10ga Hammer Hammerguns 10 gauge |

In remarkable condition for its age, this is a very high-grade gun. Do I see a few traces of color remaining? Lucky for us the barrels have been shortened - it is actually quite handy for a big 10. Do you suppose it was a coach gun at one time? The Damascus bores are pretty good, a few speckles but nothing to worry about. *There is a Double Gun Journal article on this gun from sometime in 2021. Stay tuned, I will find it. |

Stephen Grant London BEST Hammer double in its original makers case Hammerguns 12 gauge |
6044 6069 |
Existing company records tell us this fine gun was completed October 29th 1889. Thank you Atkin, Grant, and Lang for supplying this information. It is in very high condition for a gun of this age featuring the best wood and engraving and barrels the London trade could offer. 50% original case color remaining which is remarkable and the engraving is as sharp as the day it was cut. *This gun in my book is what I call a "Keeper." Keepers are guns that we seldom see in such honest and well cared for condition and even better, in their original makers case. I have a very hard and fast rule that I only keep 16g. guns for myself. This rule keeps me from being overly tempted by guns like this! If this gun was a 16g I would certainly be "keeping" it! < *If you are looking for an honest London "BEST" hammer gun, I cannot imagine finding a better example. |

Holland & Holland hammer double with really cool forward underlever and 2 3/4" Nitro proofs Hammerguns 12 gauge |
6218 4682 |
This H&H features modern dimensions and is choked for great success on pointed birds! The gun is vault tight and has very nice bright bores (there is a little pitting in the forcing cone but nothing of consequence. This gun passed 2 3/4" nitro proof in 2024 in London so this pitting was there during the proof.) *My personal hunting gun features the forward under lever, often called a "snap action", and I love it. Note this gun is nicely cased with oil bottle and cleaning rod and jags. Truthfully, a wonderful package. |

Purdey top lever Island lock ~ No cast so ok for the right handed or left handed shooter! Hammerguns 12 gauge |
5125 8273 |
This find Purdey dates from 1870 and was sleeved in modern times which has allowed it to become a very shootable and functional piece of history at an affordable price. *If you are unfamiliar with the term "Island Lock" take a look at the right hand or left-hand lock on this shotgun and you will note that the stock wood goes all the way around the lock, thus making the lock an "island" of steel in wood. Purdey is well known with this feature, but I have seen other English makers do this also, possibly copying Purdey. |

A very nice forward underlever. This is like the Woodward that I hunt with. I like this opening system very much. It is out of the way and easy to use. This gun is tight and field ready. There are a few light pits in the left barrel where the barrels are very thick and nothing of consequence. *A very nice Holland hammer gun for a great price. |

1891 Holland & Holland Round Action Hammer gun in 12G Hammerguns 12 gauge |
6050 14609 |
We love these antique round-action H&H hammer guns around here. This one has everything you need. The action of course locks up perfectly tight. Damascus bores are in excellent shape for their age (like me). The stock is a nice length too for a gun of the period. Classic 1890s Holland scroll engraving everywhere you would expect it, including the forend tip and diamond. On the flats, the proof marks were applied a little enthusiastically and aren't legible. The only other imperfection on this one is the top tang standing a little proud from the wood. *Antique guns can be shipped directly to you |

This is a lovely top lever hammer double. It features rebounding hammers and very good wall thickness. Perhaps someone can help us with dating this one. The serial number suggests 1859-1863, but some sources seem to think the 'Makers to the Royal Family and the Pacha of Egypt' is later. Regardless, this is a beautiful English muzzle loader in shooting condition that is begging to be take afield again. *The case is lovely and includes an authentic nipple wrench, felt wads, and overshot cards, and an oil bottle. Note the dimensions are modern high for rising birds. |

A great example, but more than, an example one can shoot in the field. I would not call it bank vault tight as I can feel a very ever so slight movement. We can recommend a great person to properly tighten this up, but it could be shot with the proper loads like this I suspect for years.

Lepage 16g muzzle loader~ A wonderful Parisian maker, a gun used in the field, and great balance Hammerguns 16 gauge |
5690 2546 |
Le Page was a respected gun maker to most of the kings and aristocracy of Europe for over 300 years. Examples of these guns can be found in major museums all over the world including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY and also the Louvre in Paris. Our gun has some cosmetic rust pitting to the receiver (see photos) but it has great modern dimensions, and it balances very well with a great feeling between the hands. The last owner hunted rabbit extensively with this gun, so it is a gun that is ready for the field. *The minimum wall might look concerning on the right barrel, but it is found only 1.5" from the muzzle where there is very little pressure. Immediately behind that spot the wall jumps up to .028. |

Elegant long barrels with great choking and the classic sidelever this little gem has a lot to offer. The sleeving was done and proofed in the UK and they did an excellent job.
The locks are a bit proud of the wood and there is a strong looking repair to the left upper horn. The barrels are tight against the face and open and close with the perfect "clunk." I see nothing that would not make this a fantastic small bore bird gun in the field. |
