Charles Daly Prussian 10g. ( G. Lindner gun) What a great classic double for a bargain price ~ All 10 pounds!
Boxlocks
10 gauge

This gun built around 1890 actually has quite nice bores with only a thin frost of pitting in places. I believe it was built for Charles Daly of New York by George Lindner in Germany. The proof marks under the barrels have the crossed dueling pistol marks which was his mark.

There is quite a lot of case color left on the action with some browning in places. The stock has a reinforced pin in the head which you can see in the photographs. There is some shadow of lines in the wrist that could be a repair but it, even is sunlight, is hard to see so I am not sure about this.

We found this gun in the back room making space and it needs a new home

British over and unders have always been rare and very expensive. This Charles Lancaster dates from 1907 and is of very high quality as one would expect from a London gun from this period.

The large amount of drop comes up better than one would think as I believe it is countered by the 1/2" cast off.

This little Churchill is in wonderful original condition and is very light and lithe. Well balanced it actually, when swung, feels like a much longer barreled gun. The original makers case is in very nice condition.

The 3" of drop at heel is for the long necked and tall lanky build but could be, as the stock is very straight grained, be bent up.

No cast on this fine shotgun so could be shot by a left- or right-handed person. The long 30" tubes are impressive with excellent min. wall thickness. Great stock dimensions for most. Excellent engraving and has bushed firing pins. The large pad/extension could be removed and replaced with a standard 1" pad and have LOP of 14 1/2".

Very American dimensions on this Scottish boxlock. With zero cast it could be shot by a right handed or left handed person. It is tight on face and field ready.

Shooting Sportsman (January-February) has a great article about these Scottish boxlocks by Douglas Tate. See page 54. To sum the article up the Scottish makers spent extra time and effort to make their boxlocks superior and unique from the average Birmingham gun.

Built in 1896 so this gun can be shipped direct.

Nitro proofed Damascus with good walls and choking that will put more game birds in your game bag. The dimensions are high like our more modern guns so many of you will like them. The wood is actually quite beautiful but would if one wanted to make it show be ready for a new oil finish and have the checkering picked up. This is not expensive, and we are pricing the gun right so one could afford to do this. Of course, one would not need to do anything with it at all as it is tight and ready to share lead with your favorite bird!

Webley made a very large number of these because they became very well known for being well made for an affordable price. This example obviously has seen good use but despite its handling marks and fading blueing is still as tight as the day it was built and has very good trigger pulls. A great backup gun or introduction to vintage boxlocks.

I particularly like the ergonomic feel of the Prince of Wales grip on this gun.

Beesley & Son, London and inscribed on rib "Made for J.P. Graham, Cockermouth"
Boxlocks

Beesley and Son, London. I assumed when I purchased this gun that it was a Frederick Beesley gun. The man that invented the Purdey self-opener action still in use today by Purdey. Now I am not so sure. I have spent the last half an hour researching but not finding anything specific about Beesley & Son. There is much about Frederick but not about his later years and when his son may have joined the firm. Anyone want to educate the me on this maker?

This certainly is a quality shotgun with some nice features such as the higher-grade Anson and Deeley double seared action and with bushed firing pins. The barrels were proofed in London and remain in proof. The gun is tight and well balanced.

The name on the rib also had me a bit intrigued so I had to do an internet search. I did not really expect to find much but as it turns out, J.P. Graham was not only an individual but the name of a well-established Gun and fishing tackle supply store. I found a picture of an invoice from this interesting little business online and have attached it here. The town name also was a place I had never heard of so I had to look that up. I have to say I don't think I would want to tell people I was from "Cockermouth." What a name. Sounds like something my mother might call me after I said something naughty and would result in a mouth full of soap. The name does have much logic to it as the town is located at the mouth of the Cocker river where it empties into the river Derwent in Cumbria.

Bushed firing pins and high-grade wood are both top notch features on this shotgun by this famous maker. Pay attention to the 5/8" cast off for a right-handed shooter. It seems a bit extreme, but the gun comes up pretty nice as is although it could be easily bent over a 1/4" if wanted.

On the rib on this English boxlock it says, "The Transvaal Gun" and also on the rib "Specially made for C. Lefever, Bloemhof. Transvaal being a former province in South Africa. It would be interesting to research further to learn more about Mr. Lefever.

With 30" nitro steel barrels and modern rising bird stock dimensions I believe many will find this vintage shotgun very effective in the field.

Interesting that Bloemhof is a diamond mining area in South Africa. Wikipedia records: "It was founded in August 1864 when diamonds were discovered in the area.[4] The town was established on the farm owned by John Barclay, who survived the HMS Birkenhead shipwreck in 1852. The place became known as Bloemhof (flower court) because of the lovely gardens that were planted by Barclay's daughter. In June 1869, the South African Republic's Volksraad created a new district called Bloemhof named after the town itself.["

A very nice English boxlock at a super price. There is a chip in the toe of the butt plate that is easily repairable. It has a lovely horn pistol grip cap and horn forend escutcheon. This gun has tight bores, is in proof, and locks up tight.

Interesting history of C.G. Bonehill:

C. G. Bonehill was an English gunmaker from Birmingham, England who lived from 1831 to 1900 1. He established his own firm in 1851 and was recorded at 33 Charlotte Street with a factory in Morville Street in 1872 1. In 1873, he moved the whole business to the Belmont Firearms Works, Belmont Row 1. C. G. Bonehill was a Guardian of The Birmingham Proof House 1. He was related to and may have been associated with O. G. Bonehill of Belmont Firearms Works also of Birmingham 2. He held 4 US patents issued in the 1880s 2. From about 1900 to 1965, the company produced ball & shot guns and combination guns, and they made the Britannia air rifle 1. They were pioneers in the mechanization of gun manufacture, making the “Belmont Interchangeable” shotguns 1. From about 1900, C G Bonehill were the main suppliers of rifles to the “Society of Miniature Rifle Clubs” 1. The Society was founded to encourage rifle shooting amongst working class men, and it was largely responsible for establishing smallbore rifle shooting as a sport in England 1. For this purpose, old .303 Martini-Enfield rifles were re-barrelled to .22 rimfire and sold at very reasonable prices 1

Serial number records show us this shotgun was built in 1902. As you can see in the pictures the bluing on the barrels have multiple light scratches but the barrels are tight on face with nice bores. We have priced the gun to leave some room for a barrel blacking.

This shotgun features a longer than normal forend which I really like as it would be excellent for clay shooting!

Built on a unique but 100% trigger plate action this is a gun that I have always been intrigued with. I like everything about them except for the safe which is located to the right and left of the trigger guard. It functions fine but I don't find them as ergonomic as the top safe.

So, despite the safety, I still shoot, promote and get excited about these guns as they are worth having, shooting and appreciating due to their great balanced round action and features. This grade and higher feature a rising bite third fastener similar to the coveted Rigby rising third bite. The pull back lever behind the trigger guard opens the gun and is extremely ergonomic. It is out of the way and very easy to operate.

This is one of the most unique side by side shotguns we have ever had in the shop. Many have heard of the "Kerstan" rib extension extra bite. This patent is still in use today by Merkel on their best over and unders. This Kerstan marked example is a double Kerstan bite on a horizontal profile. An extremely strong and unusual prewar 16g. side by side that weighs under 6 lbs. but carries 29" Krupp barrels.

The condition is quite good although there is some light pitting in each bore. I have shot this gun and I have to say it handles extremely well. This is from my personal collection, and I often referred to this gun as my "Hammer head shark" gun!

What a great little 20g.. It is tight and field ready. There is a little light pitting in the right barrel but nothing of consequence. This is a great price for a 20g. English double.

*Note the great wall thickness on the 28" barrels and the excellent choking for upland game. Henry Hodgson was a well-established gunmaker in Ipswich in the early 1900's.

I am not sure I have ever seen another Stephen Grant .410 double. While quite rare this gun is still deadly in the field. It weighs in at 4 lbs. even so would hardly be noticeable on a long day's hunt.

Completed in July of 1926 according to company records (see photo).

What a great little double gun. C.S. Rosson was a great maker in Norwich England on Rampant Horse street. Wonder how that street got its name?

This gun was built between the great wars in 1933. The LOP could be lengthened with a recoil pad to make the LOP almost 14 5/8". The right side of the action the wood has been properly reinforced with dowels to strengthen the stock.

I have hunted with and I guess will admit to collecting these Manufrance French trigger plate double guns for years. They still fascinate me. This great example features chopperlump barrels and the retractable in-stock sling which works perfect. The Rifled barrel is excellent and sharp. The shotgun barrel appears mirror when examined from the breech but when inspected from the muzzle I can see some light pitting in places. Only cosmetic but I want you all to know it is there.

This gun is in very nice condition with much original case color remaining. I am told you can shoot shot out of the rifled barrel also so can still be used as a double barrel shotgun.
