@1877 This is a great example of the early Anson & Deeley action. Bright bores with only a little frost pitting in places. several small dings which can be lifted. Barrel brown looks authentic although I can see no name on the rib. Barrels have slight rise upward probably for rising birds. Great wood!

J.P. Sauer Grade 17 - A worthy project gun ....
Rust & Dust
12 gauge
2333
117074
Medium deep pitting in both bores. One significant dent in the right barrel 4 3/4" from the muzzle on the right barrel. Gun is off face and needs rejoining. Chequering is gone in places, would need full re-cut in a restoration. Keep in mind this is a true Prussian round top Sauer and it features the long action table. Good news is that the barrels will probably clean up with a back boring as they have excellent thick walls.

Bulge behind left choke creating a jug choke of .009 thou. The barrels appear to have been shortened at some point in this guns life. Very nice wood in need of a new oil finish. Notice the great dimensions! Trigger pulls are crisp but right ejector is weak but operating. A great little rough country gun!

This has been rather amateur stocked at least in the butt. The hidden sling is missing and needs a butt plate or pad. The barrels show some pitting but I believe would clean up as you could remove .005 from each and they should be clean. The top two tang screws need replacing. This was a project I never got too and worthy . I am open to trades.:)

This gun is a needy child but the original high grade quality might inspire! Bores are pitted fairly badly. Stock is a poor restock and has terrible dimensions anyway so could be used as a pattern to modify for a restock. Ejectors work fine, trigger pulls are ok. Some person we would like to incarcerate and castrate with my lawn mower buffed all the detail from the engraving so it would all need re-cutting as well as new screws. It is possible with a re-proof the gun could be used as is for a classic pick-up rack gun.

Nice Damascus brown on these barrels. The wrist has been well repaired with epoxy and seems very strong. A little checkering and cosmetics could make this a nice looking gun. The bores are fairly bright with a light frost but have numerous dings and one dent that should be removed.

This gun is in proof with bores that measure .720 proofed at 13. Gun needs tightening before being shot. Barrels appear solid but some pitting in the bores, blue almost gone, and several small dings, Wood has a coat of heavy varnish that I would strip and put a natural oil finish on. An easy project.

What a nice pair of very shootable hammer doubles from this famous maker. They come in a wonderful pair vintage solid oak case. Number 1 gun has British sleeved barrels and number two gun has replacement steel barrels also done in England. The open barrels would be death on quail under most conditions while the other set would be great for just about every other upland bird. I note that these guns handle very well and have BEST quality locks. Consignor says sell together or buy just one for 6500.00.

What a wonderful English hammer gun and at a price where it could be your introduction to hammer shotgun gunning. A passion I truly enjoy. Check out the wood, great stock dimensions, and it is cased... ...and all for a near bargain price.

Holland & Holland 16 gauge hammer gun - How rare is that?
Hammerguns

According to the Holland records this gun started out as a paradox which is a shotgun with rifling in the choke area so it can be used as a rifle and a shotgun. The rifling has removed but this has left it a very nice handling 16 gauge higher grade Holland hammer gun. I like how this gun comes up very much and hope I can shoot it before it is sold!

Gun is tight on face. Chequering nicely re-cut recently. I love the oak leaf and game scene engraving on this gun as it is exceptional to the period. Imported by Abercrombie and Fitch from Joseph Lang in London these key opening side-locks are quite rare and beautiful to behold. Joseph Lang, knowing that the owner of this fine shotgun would be able to inspect and clean the locks themselves took obvious extra time and skill to finish each lock so they were fit and polished to above and beyond the highest standard set by the English gun trade leaving them internally beautiful to behold. Blow up the picture of the lock and have a look! The single trigger works perfect!

So many of the quality gun makers names have been lost with time and this gun by Charles Smith gives us a direct connection with a smaller maker that very little is known but where the quality shows through. Nigel Brown's Book on British Gunmakers Volume III lists this as a Newark England maker. The gun retains considerable amount of case color on the beautifully engraved locks. I might mention the locks are high quality also with safety sears. This is a real value in an English sidelock.

Thomas Bland & Son's 16g. bore sidelock in very solid condition, 30" barrels!

Finding 16g. nitro proofed English guns with 30" barrels has been like trying to find rocking horse poop. Well, maybe not that bad but they have been so hard to find of late. I am a 16 gauge fan as most of you know and I have to say I do love these long barrels that swing for us so well. This gun is not fancy but is very well made and the barrels are in excellent condition.

This gun was imported to America by our friends at William Larkin & Moore. They record this as a KING 1 model. This little 20 is of the highest quality. While it is known that I prefer pre WWII guns I find as I handle this gun it is hard to put down. Built like a Swiss watch and feels so wonderful between the hands. Excellent stock work and metal work I cannot fault but only find praise.

This little high grade 20 features a Churchill rib, 65% case color, exquisite engraving, and feels better than gold in the hands. The wood grade is tops and beautiful stock work. What a wonderful quail or grouse gun this would make. Comes in its makers leather brass cornered case with its original label in nice condition. Original shorter stock comes with the gun. Built between the wars in 1938 which many consider the pinnacle of English gun making.

Great quality in this classic side-plated double gun. Comes with a complete set of choke tubes and nice leather hard case. I must note this gun has been well cared for and is in excellent condition. Single trigger. Cast off only a bit so a lefty can shoot it too!

Sir Joseph Whitworth steel! In its original makers case! Anson is quite famous as he gave us the boxlock gun we know today. Westley Richards held his invention patents so it is quite rare to see his design with his name on it. Own a wonderful part of double gun history while being able to use it quite effectively in the field.

Westley Richards classic "Best" boxlock with high grade related hinged bottom inspection
Boxlocks
12 gauge

C1115
This vintage Westley is very interesting to me as it has a hinged action inspection plate just like those found on their famous drop lock guns. This does make it easy to keep the locks properly lubricated. The gun has the double under bite and with the patent Westley top rib extension third bite. The gun needs a new pad as the one that came on it was crumbling in our hands so we removed it. This would have the advantage of making the gun have an LOP of anywhere up to 15 1/16". We can arrange for this!

@1877 This is a great example of the early Anson & Deeley action. Bright bores with only a little frost pitting in places. several small dings which can be lifted. Barrel brown looks authentic although I can see no name on the rib. Barrels have slight rise upward probably for rising birds. Great wood!

Almost Daly Diamond grade engraving on this German classic. Unlike the Daly guns this gun does not have the extra safety sears (the screws are fake!). This gun has been restocked but in my opinion it is still to thick in places and would benefit from some more wood removal. These guns are of very high quality.

German gunsmith Johann Nikolaus von Dreyse beginning in 1824, after conducted multiple experiments in 1836 produced the first complete needle fire gun. Here is what may be a one of kind 16g. needle fire shotgun! The lever not only moves the barrels to the right but when closing cams the barrels back into the breech face. This gun won the NRA Foundation trophy at the Celebration of Fine Guns in San Francisco.

Great wood on this straight gripped DHE. Interesting that the gun was nitro proofed in Birmingham England for 2 3/4" nitro at 950 barr in 1986. Makers case and canvas cover included. For the tall man that needs a long length of pull this 20 DHE is ideal. Notice the Q1 and Q2 choking, very rare and desirable in a 26" DHE.

JPSauer sidelock drilling with side-cocking rifle and top tang safety, My favourite drilli
Drillings, Double Rifles, and Rifles
16 gauge
2337

This drilling is chambered in 9.3x72RSS, a larger version of the standard 72 R using a case similar to the 9.3x74 but not the same ballistics. I have hunted with a drilling almost identical to this one for years and I have to say I just love the feel of these. Mine is my go too gun when I cannot seem to hit with anything else! This design is a full sidelock shotgun with the rifle sears built on a trigger plate. It is only hot when the rifle is cocked with the sidelever which equates to safe shotguning when the rifle is not in use. The top lever safe is a big plus as most drillings do not have this and we top safe people do not have to adapt. The peep sight is a work of art. The internal craftsmanship on these guns is like a pre-war Swiss watch. Bright bores, with some marks from some previous dings removed. The action appears to be recently tightened, tight on the face. Checkering is worn and rubbed in places but very restorable. Notice the detail in the front trigger! Wow.

This is a quite well known maker of top notch guns from Hanover Germany. I must say that the bore is not only bright but the rifling is very sharp and shows little ware. I love the peep sight inlet into the top tang. I am not sure of the case but will have a casting and ID it soon.

This gun has a very nice bore and a long African history that I am sure included ridden hard and wet. The PH did at all cost take care of the bore however. Restoration with new blue has made the old girl look much nicer including a new stock copied after the original. yes, we have the original stock. It was broken and repaired. This guns screams of history on the dark continent. I have to wonder how many times this gun has stared into the eye's of death.

A very nice Holland with a super rounded action and correct peep sight. The best part I have to tell you about as you cannot see it in the pictures. The bore on inspection basically looks like new! There is some barrel pitting on the outside under the forend but not bad, otherwise the octagon barrel is in nice condition. Completed @ 1890. The lining job is near imperceptible. Excellent.

Hosford and Co. Wall thickness gauge
Men's Collectibles
10 gauge
1158
This wall thickness gauge, complete with table clamping barrel vise, is the most accurate wall thickness gauge that we are aware of for the money (the next more accurate gauge is digital and costs over 2K). This gauge will measure 4 gauge through .410. It may look intimidating to use but let me assure you it is not. The secret and success of this gauge is in that the barrels are easily held suspended by the table clamped barrel vise. The gauge, once zeroed is slid over the barrel and quite easily moved back and forth while one just watches the gauge to read the actual barrel wall thickness. There is no math to do. The ingenious barrel holder allows you to easily rotate the barrels allowing you access to areas of the barrel near the ribs. On the vertical gauge this is quite difficult but on this gauge very easy. This gauge also has the feature of a finer pointed tip on the gauge allowing you to measure inside many pits. I cannot stress the value of having a quality wall thickness gauge if one is a serious collector and purchaser of high end double guns. THE FIRST GUN YOU REFUSE AS A RESULT OF USING THIS GAUGE PAYS FOR THE GAUGE MANY TIMES OVER. If you do not understand the significance of the last sentence, please reread it. We will not make any significant money selling these gauges. It is our intent to have educated buyers. It is our belief that our client’s best interests are also ours. Most all of our best clients already have this gauge but I would like to see all of our clients with one. These gauges were designed and hand built by Jon Hosford, a natural engineer, double gun lover, collector, and wing shooter (not to mention his appetite for fine red wine, scotch, and good food!)

See Jon's gauge in use and learn how to use it on youtube by typing in a search on youtube: “Hosford & Co., Shotgun barrel gauge, Part 1” or clicking this url: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jQZn4kohH4

Le Fusil de Chasse "Ideal" by Jean-Claude Mounrnetas
Men's Collectibles

2025
This soft bound book is about the history and development of the Manufrance Ideal model round action trigger plate shotguns and rifles with many pictures and diagrams and the coveted serial number to date chart. We imported four of these from France. I am keeping one so we have three for sale. Yes, all the print is in French but I find with the charts, photographs and appendices the book very useful even if one does not understand a lot of French. I have a passion for these guns as they are so well made and designed but also beautiful to hold and to look at. Like a beautiful woman! :)

I know the price seems high but these were not inexpensive to us and the only book on the subject we are aware of so we paid the price.

Knubley 22 bore double flint, ready for the field! Classic English Flint

NVN
John Knubley was a very respected Sword and Gun Maker to the Royal Family from 1770-1795. First in Otly (Otley), Yorkshire (1766-1771) and then 11 Charing Cross, London(1771-1793) and 7 Charing Cross, London (1794 until his death in 1795). Samuel Brunn and later joined by John Mallet continued the business with Knubley’s widow until Brunn ceased trading in 1820. This double flint fowler is a circa 1770 22 bore. It went through a major restoration project that included barrel reconditioning, browning, and re=engraving, stock restoration , and action restoration. Peter Dyson of England restored the locks (the safeties were deactivated) at a cost of over $1700 in 2009. The gun remains un-fired after major restoration. The gun has won many awards at the annual Calif SXS gathering. What I like about this gun is the very shootable stock dimensions. This gun was made for wing shooting! Do look at the picture of the inside of the lock as they are works of art.
